RArcInfo: using G.I.S. data with R

چکیده

Geographical Information Systems (G.I.S.) have become powerful tools for integration, visualisation and analysis of spatial data, also providing the capability of integrating data from different sources. However, the number of statistical methods implemented in most GIS is not comparable to those we can find within R. RArcInfo is written with the aim of importing data from two of the most used formats in the G.I.S. community: Arc/Info V 7.x binary coverages and E00 files, which are supported by nearly all the G.I.S. software available nowadays. Once the data are imported into R, the user can use several packages to perform spatial analysis on the data, access to databases to integrate new data and other interesting possibilities, which increase the spectrum of statistical tools available to mine data.

G.I.S. to Support Environmental Sustainability in Manufacturing Areas. Case Study of the Apulian Region in Southern Italy

This work addresses the potential of using Geographic Information Systems (G.I.S.) to support urban planning. In the case in point, the tool has been adopted to carry out a census of all the manufacturing plants in the Apulian Region, in the context of a working agreement between the Apulian Regional Board and the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of Bari Polytechnic. After analysin...

Time-Effect Relationship of Toxicity Induced by Roundup® and Its Main Constituents in Liver of Carassius Auratus

In order to evaluate the eco-toxicological effects of Roundup on Carassius auratus (C. auratus), fish were exposed to 32 μg/L Roundup, isopropylamine salt of glyphosate (G.I.S) and polyoxyethylene amine (POEA) over different periods (0.5, 1, 3, 7 and 14 d). Hydroxyl radical (·OH), malondialdehyde (MDA) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in liver were detected in this study. Results showed that the...

G.I.S. technologies for data collection, management and visualization of large slope instabilities: two applications in the Western Italian Alps

Large slope instabilities are gravitational phenomena whose main characteristics are the multi-km2 area extension and the complex geometrical, geomorphological and geomechanical settings. Several studies outlined their importance in spatial and temporal occurrence of natural hazards on wide mountain areas and their possible interaction in human activities. For the study of large slope instabili...

The Breadth versus Depth : Dilemma of G

Space is a common concept: widely used in everyday life. No particular discipline has a monopoly on its use. The same is true to a lesser extent for computers. The combination causes problems. Universities and professions thrive on dividing knowledge into compartments, which then need to co-operate in regions of overlap. The maximum confusion can be created where the subject is of wide interest...

Modeling Past Vegetation Change Through Remote Sensing and G.I.S: A Comparison of Neural Networks and Logistic Regression Methods

Past change in remnant vegetation patches was modeled using remotely-sensed MSS and TM imagery and G.I.S. The images covering 27 years from 1973 to 2000 were used in detecting change in vegetation through post-classification comparison and modeling it through neural networks and logistic regression methods. Physical factors, image-based layers and landscape metrics provided the 19 predictor var...
